Tigers qualify for state at region track meet; Wylie to defend titles A total of six Washington-Wilkes Tigers qualified for the state track meet by virtue of their placings in the region meet which was held last Friday and Monday. As a team, W-W finished in third place behind Greene County and North Oconee. Double defending state champion Dan Wylie earned his return spots as expected in the discus and shot put with first place finishes at 156' and 52'6" respectively. Also qualifying for state with second place finishes were Randy Thomas in the discus throw with 142'6"; Eric Scott in the long jump at 20'1¾"; and Deon Jackson in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.13. Also qualifying with a second place finish was the 4x100-meter relay team of Deandre Stewart, Eric Scott, Teverrius Jones, and Deon Jackson. Other kids who did a great job at the region meet, according to head coach Brian Usry, were Tyler Stasyshyn, seventh place in 800 meters; Chris Kemp, fifth place in the 300-meter hurdles and sixth place in the 110-meter hurdles; Demoris Jackson, sixth place in the triple jump; Jones, fifth in the 200 meters; and Scott, third in the triple jump.
The state track meet will be held in Jefferson May 8-10.
