W-WPS students hit a home run
Two hundred fifty-fivestudents at Washington-Wilkes Primary School completed a "home run reading challenge" to earn a ticket to an Augusta GreenJackets baseball game. Students were challenged to read a book a day for four consecutive weeks, with each week representing a base on the baseball diamond. Each week students who met the goal were rewarded with a prize. The first, second, and third base prizes were provided by local sponsors McDonald's, Zaxby's and Farmers and Merchants Bank. The home run prize was a free ticket to a GreenJackets baseball game. The students were recognized at the GreenJackets game on Friday, April 18, during a pre-game ceremony. They introduced themselves and walked across the field to receive a certificatefrom Auggie, the Green- Jackets mascot. Flavius Zahran, a W-WPS second grader, is shown above with Auggie.
