W-W Animal Shelter gets donation from Georgia gun-dog rescue group The Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter has received a distinct honor and sizeable monetary contribution from an organization which it has supported for nearly 10 years. . Gloria Wheatley, Washington- Wilkes Animal Shelter Director and Manager, received a letter including the contribution from Kate J. Kiley, president of the Field of Dreams Gun Dog Rescue in Conyers. Kiley said that she had personally "pulled dogs" from the Washington Wilkes shelter for the Pointer Rescue Organization. One of these was a liver and white male pointer named Manley who became the organization's first experience with fostering dogs and began a six-year odyssey into dog rescue, The effort culminated in the beginning of Field of Dreams Gun Dog Rescue Inc. which was founded in 2002. Kiley said that since that time they have pulled several pointers and English setters from the shelter here and that she has always been impressed with the care and attention which Wheatley lavished on the animals. Those in charge of Field of Dreams are dissolving the rescue organization to go in a different direction and at the final meeting, the officersand directors unanimously voted to donate the remainder of the rescue account to the Washington- Wilkes Animal Shelter. "I hope you can make some use of the enclosed donation," Kiley wrote. "We applaud your work and hope to one day return to rescue ourselves. Until then, know that your shelter and all the hard work you've done have been an inspiration to us." |
