Primary School students' pennies, ice cream donated for 2008 Relay

Mrs. Barnett's class filled five2-liter bottles with pennies to raise money for the Relay for Life.
Students at Washington Wilkes Primary School have been busy raising money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life! One fund-raising opportunity was a 'Fillthe Penny-Jug' contest. Students brought pennies from home to filla two-liter bottle in their classrooms. Mrs. Ginny Barnett's class won the penny contest brining in five2-liter bottles filled with pennies! Each 2-liter bottle held approximately $25.00 in pennies.

Students also participated in pet contests and "Give-up-your-Ice Cream" contests to raise money. Each contest was a valuable learning opportunity for the students. During the penny contest many classes talked about estimation, weight, and the value of money as well as the valuable lesson of learning to help one another. All proceeds have been donated to last week's Relay for Life.
