Hooton speaks to Frances Wheelis Women on Mission

Becky Hooton was guest speaker at the meeting of the Frances Wheelis Women on Mission of the First Baptist Church in the conference room Monday evening, May 5.

Kay Nelms welcomed members and guests. Guest Kathy Tate opened in prayer after which Mrs. Hooton gave a most interesting slide presentation as she related a mission trip taken by her, Mrs. Tate, Tyler and Rita Verdery and Janice McAvoy to Thessaloniki, Greece.

Following her program Mrs. Tate told of an upcoming mission trip to Haiti and gave an inspiring testimony of how God has worked to put her in "this place at this time." At the close of this part of the program, Jackie Gillispie offered a prayer for the Haiti mission team.

Members and guests adjourned to the Mary Callaway Burton Fellowship Hall for refreshments served by Mrs. Nelms and Melanie Wells.

The business meeting followed and Mrs. Wells opened by leading the WMU Watchword. Reports were given and upcoming events were reviewed.

In the mission action report, Mrs. Nelms thanked members for bringing colorful flipflops and hair bows and accessories for the Haitian trip. In addition to other projects for the month, members also voted to make a love gift to the Haitian team to be used where best needed.

Teresa Bishop led the missionary prayer calendar and closed with a prayer for the missionaries and those with special needs in the community.

Attending were special guest and prospective new member, Shelby Caddell; guests, Rena Groot of Canada, Becky Hooton and Kathy Tate; and members, Teresa Bishop, Cheryl Edwards, Jackie Gillispie, Pat Grimaud, Linda Echols, Rosemary Hopkins, Gail Hunter, Sue Lance, Kay Nelms, Elizabeth Pope, Susan Pope and Melanie Wells.
