Crew to serve as assoc. vice president at Fort Valley State
"Dr. Crew is in his tenth year at Fort Valley State," Henderson stated upon making his selection. "During this period he has become known around campus as 'the man who wears many hats.'" Henderson added, "Dr. Crew, a retired Special Agent with the Air Force Officeof Special Investigations and former interim chief of Campus Police and Safety, has the experience and background we need to maximize effectiveness in areas of critical need as the university continues to grow." Crew is currently working with local officials on behalf of Fort Valley State University to offer college classes in Wilkes County in the near future. He hopes to starta "Grow Your Own" program in Wilkes County as well. The "Grow Your Own" program, he explained, allows communities like Wilkes County and Fort Valley State University to partner in offering college classes locally that lead to a degree in teacher education. "The advantage of this program is that persons who participate are already living in Wilkes County," Crew said. "Upon graduations they will more than likely stay in Wilkes County and continue to work as teachers in the local K-12 school system." As associate vice president Crew will direct the officesof Campus Police and Safety; Auxiliary Services; and Plant Operations. Additionally, for the next several months he will remain in charge of the Officeof Human Resources until the shared services initiatives under consideration by the Georgia Board of Regents have been implemented. Crew actively participates in causes and organizations throughout Middle Georgia. To name a few, he sits on the Georgia Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) state council, is a member of the Macon SHRM chapter, formerly chaired the Head Start Administering Board; and also acted as chairman of the Georgia Peach Festival. He is the son of Mary P. Crew of Washington. |
