Members, guests celebrate 225 years at Sardis Baptist homecoming Sunday

Sardis Baptist Church enjoyed homecoming Sunday.

Rev. Jim Newsome welcomed everyone and asked the visitors to stand and introduce themselves. Many had come back home for the wonderful celebration of 225 years for Sardis.

Jo Randall of Washington was pianist as Pam Hall led the congregational singing. The Sardis ladies ensemble consisting of Joyce Fry, Denise Armour, Pam Hall and Monica Gunter, had the audience spellbound as they sang "When That Trumpet Sounds."

Tom Wells of the First Baptist Church in Washington held the audience in awe as he sang "The King Is Coming."

Rev. Newsome, pastor of the church, called for the children to come to the altar for their message and prayer. After this, Courtney Gunter took them downstairs to the annex for children's church.

Dr. Bryan Edwards, former pastor of Sardis, was then welcomed and introduced and asked his wife, Dr. Norma Edwards, to stand as he introduced her. He brought a special homecoming message, "Fifty Years Ago at Sardis." He brought back many memories for the older generation as he told of things that happened and families that he remembered during his time here from 1958 to 1962.

Beautiful flowers placed by Norman and Joan Echols adorned the communion table in the sanctuary and Grady and Ruth Rogers placed another beautiful arrangement in the foyer.

A bountiful fellowship meal in the annex with renewing of acquaintances was enjoyed by over 100 who had attended the service. What a wonderful homecoming day it was!

The afternoon singing by "The New Apostles" of Crawfordville was enjoyed afterwards by many and such good singing of songs such as "I'll Fly Away," "This Old House," "Beulah Land," and many others. Rev. Newsome joined them in singing "Just a Little Talk With Jesus." The pastor's voice rang out loud and clear and the audience was delighted.
