Jessica Leigh Coxwell and Herchell Lee Evans united in marriage on April 5 at First Baptist

Jessica Leigh Coxwell and Herchell Lee Evans of Dacula were united in marriage in an impressive double-ring ceremony Saturday, April 5, at six o'clock in the evening at the First Baptist Church in Washington. Rev. Albert W. Huyck Jr. of Tignall officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Dan Coxwell of Washington.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Edwards of Lexington.

Wreaths of greenery trimmed with ivory bows adorned the front doors of the church and were placed in memory of the couple's grandparents.

At the back of the altar was a large Grecian column holding a five-branch nickel candelabrum centerpiece of snapdragons, Alstroemeria lilies, ranunculus and lisianthus with flowing sprengeri fern and bear grass. On each side of the centerpiece were five-branch nickel votives with greenery entwined. The unity candle holding white tapers was nickel and also featured greenery. On the outer edges of the altar were nickel spiral votive candelabra entwined with greenery. The bottom step of the altar was flanked with two large Boston ferns. Family seating was marked with pew bows of sheer ivory ribbon with greenery.

Guests registered in the bride's book tended by Megan Nelms and Abbie Nelms of Lilburn, cousins of the bride.

Wedding programs were given at the door by Taylor Coxwell and Jolane Mosley of Warrenton, cousins of the bride.

A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Smythe Newsome, organist, and Mrs. Allen Burton, pianist, both of Washington. Grandparents were seated to "O Perfect Love" and the mothers to "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling." Members of the wedding party processed to "Canon in D" and the bride to "Bridal Chorus." The bride's sister, Laura Coxwell Leard of Washington, vocalist, sang "This Day" before the processional. She also sang "In This Very Room" as the couple lighted the unity candle. The couple recessed to "Wedding March".

Mr. Edwards was his son's best man. Groomsmen were Brandon Hoke of Boiling Springs, S.C., and Chris Maynard of Williamson, W. Va. Ushers were Aaron Coxwell of Athens, brother of the bride, and Jack Leard III of Washington, brother-in-law of the bride.

Laura Coxwell Leard served her sister as matron of honor and Amy Terrell of New York, N.Y., was maid of honor. Hyun Cho of Snellville was the bridesmaid and Caitlin Leard of Washington, niece of the bride, served as junior bridesmaid.

Each bridal attendant wore a truffle colored gown in the style of her choice. Their hand-held bouquets of lisianthus, Alstroemeria lilies, ranunculus and spray roses were tied with sheer ivory ribbon.

Kelsey Grace Leard of Washington, niece of the bride, served as flower girl and wore an ivory dress with a truffle-colored sash tied in a back bow. She also wore a halo of gypsophila with ivory ribbon and carried an ivory satin basket with pink rose petals.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride was elegant in her ivory, strapless gown that featured a sweetheart neckline. The shirred bodice was adorned with ruching, beading and crystals. The taffeta A-line skirt was styled in the pick-up design.

Her fingertip veil was accented with a vine motif that included Swarovski crystals.

She carried a nosegay bouquet of ivory roses, ranunculus and Alstroemeria lilies tied with sheer ivory ribbon.

The bride's mother wore a long two-piece cashmere suit of dupioni silk fashioned with a portrait collar and side-wrap ruched jacket with crystal buttons.

The bridegroom's mother wore a long two-piece champagne ensemble with a matching jacket.

The bride's grandmother, Mrs. Grady Moon of Canon, wore a pale pink two-piece tea-length dress. Her grandmother, Mrs. Lewie Coxwell of Warrenton, wore a beige tealength dress and matching jacket.

Completing the attire of the mothers and grandmothers were wrist corsages of miniature ivory roses with ivory ribbon.

Mrs. Jack Harvey of Washington directed the wedding assisted by Mrs. Jay Durham and Mrs. Joe Bennett, also of Washington.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bishop of Washington served as church hosts.

Reception

The bride's parents entertained at a reception at the Pope Center following the ceremony.

Reception greeters included Mrs. Ben Bell, Mrs. Jack Bentley, Mrs. Richard Gammon, Mrs. Becky Hooton, Mrs. Jack Leard Jr., Mrs. Kenneth Lindsey, Mrs. Allen Poss and Mrs. Michael Wells, all of Washington-Wilkes.

The covered outside entrance featured wrought iron table and chair sets centered with yellow Gerber daisies in wrought iron baskets. Inside the doorway was a fountain in a garden setting. Guests were invited to sign the informal portrait of the couple displayed near the entrance to the ballroom.

The two buffets featured matching centerpieces of five-branch votive nickel candelabra arrangements of snapdragons, Alstroemeria lilies, ranunculus and lisianthus with flowing sprengeri fern and bear grass.

The four-tiered wedding cake was accented with pink rose petals and topped with pink, yellow and white roses. The couple's initials were included on the front of the top layer. The background for the cake was an arch with smilax outlined with tiny white lights.

The bridegroom's cake table featured a background of two arched wrought iron screens containing votives. Cheesecakes with various toppings were presented on footed wrought iron tiered stands. A whimsical bride and bridegroom figurine spotlighted the bridegroom's favorite football team, the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Ballroom tables for seating were covered in white with pink overlays. On each table was a footed hurricane lamp with a candle surrounded by pink accent stones and complemented by iridescent pearl strands, small votives and greenery. Bistro tables covered in white cloths gathered up with pink ribbon were used against the side walls of the ballroom and in the large hallway. Also on the tables were party favors of bags of mints embossed with the couple's initials and closed with pink ribbon in addition to small wedding bells for each guest.

Class Act Band of Atlanta provided music for dancing. The couple danced their first dance to "You Send Me." Then the bride and her father danced to "Beyond the Sea."

The couple left to the sound of wedding bells being rung by guests to wish them well.

They honeymooned in the Bahamas at the Sandals Resort.

Mr. and Mrs. Evans are living in Dacula.

Rehearsal Dinner

Herchell Evans and Jessica Coxwell entertained members of their wedding party and other guests at a dinner in the Mary Callaway Burton Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church on April 4.

A West Virginia Mountaineers theme was used highlighting the team's colors of blue and gold. Tables were covered with blue cloths and centered with arrangements of yellow Gerber daisies in wrought iron baskets.

Guests enjoyed a delicious barbecue prepared by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bentley. An assortment of cakes was served for dessert.

Wedding Day Luncheon

The Coxwell-Evans wedding party and out-of-town guests were treated to lunch in the Mary Callaway Burton Fellowship Hall on April 5.

Hostesses were Mrs. Danny Barnett, Mrs. Graham Eason, Mrs. Mercer Harris, Mrs. Wanda Jenkins, Mrs. John Jones, and Mrs. Sparky Newsome.
