Family escapes death in semi hit-and-run

A Lowndes County family escaped with relatively minor injuries after their car was hit by a semi at the dangerous intersection of Highway 78 and Business 78. Washington Police report that witnesses say that a white semi with a white trailer, coming from the direction of Thomson, ran the light and hit a car coming through the green light from the west. The truck hit the left front of the car, spun it around, and the trailer ran over the rear of the car. The truck driver fled the scene of the accident, and despite law enforcement in surrounding counties being notified to be on the lookout, neither the truck nor driver have been found, police say.

How many more accidents are going to have to occur at this dangerous intersection before something is done about this death trap? This poorly designed intersection has always felt strangely open and expansive ever since it was constructed years ago.
When someone is finally killed here, people will look back and say "something should have been done earlier to prevent this".
