Road to Recovery needs neighbors to help neighbors

Wilkes County people have another chance to help their neighbors in a time of need by driving them to medical treatments in Augusta, and volunteers will meet Friday afternoon to learn the details on what they can do.

"We are in dire need of volunteers for this important ministry to transport folks to cancer treatment, mainly in Augusta," said Cathy Lannae. The American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program will hold an orientation session on Friday, August 15, at the Mary Willis Library at 1:30-2:30 in the conference room.

The Road to Recovery is a service offered by the ACS in which volunteer drivers provide cancer patients transportation to and from their scheduled medical appointments. There is some reimbursement for mileage, and volunteers may make themselves available for a day a month, or more, and scheduling is done through a coordinator.

"If you have interest or know of anyone who would like to be on the calling list, please let me know," Lannae said. "Since the conference room at the library is small, please give me a call if you plan to attend at 706-678-2862."
