New approval clears the way for Retro Cinema to begin showing classics from 2 major studios

Retro Cinema & Books has announced the completion of a contractual approval to begin showing classic films from the two largest film libraries in Hollywood, 20th Century Fox and MGM.

Retro Cinema will be one of only a handful of theatres in Georgia to offer the combination of both current independent films as well as legendary Hollywood mega hits.

"We are excited with the variety of films we are now able to offer citizens of Wilkes County," said Retro president Dana Kibbey. " For many, this will present the first opportunity to see Academy Award films on the big screen. The enjoyment factor of watching a big screen, uncut film, is unforgettable."

Initial showings of films available under the new agreement will begin this month and include the James Bond classic, Goldfinger; Marilyn Monroe's The Seven Year Itch; Paul Giamatti's Sideways; Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise; and The Towering Inferno.

To kickoff a return to the classics, Retro Cinema will begin Wednesday matinees at 12:30 p.m. featuring free hotdogs. The first matinee will be No Business Like Show Business, starring Marilyn Monroe and Donald O'Connor, on August 20.
