Drug problem growing; little is being done

TO THE EDITOR:

The drug problem in our county is growing every day and this pastor is fed up with standing by silently.

Watching Families being destroyed by the drugs, and drug dealers, and the drug dealers knowing that the hands of our law enforcement are tied because the citizens of Wilkes County stand silently and won't speak up and expose what they know is going on. Too long we have put our heads in the sand in hopes the drug problem would pass our families by, saying well it's not as bad as some say and it does not affect our family. You are only deceiving yourself!

I would dare say the drug problem in our county has in some way affected every family in our county either by having a family member addicted to drugs or someone addicted to drugs has taken something from you to supply their drug habit. I too, even as a husband of 39 years, father of five children, grandfather of 13 grandchildren, and a pastor, drug addiction has visited my family and if it has not yet visited your family you can be sure it will!

If we don't awake out of our sleep and begin to speak up and say we are fed up, I as a pastor am tired of hearing there is nothing we can do. Our hands are tied we are doing all we can. We're working on it. The problem is too big. We know where the drug dealers are but they are too smart, or just give us time we will catch them, well this pastor thinks it's time to do something. I have seen enough children have to do without things they need because the parents are addicted to drugs. I've seen parents and grandparents sit in my office and weep bitter tears over their children and grandchildren.

Lives are being destroyed by drugs; if it sounds like this pastor is upset let me answer that question for you. "Yes" I am upset the drug problem is growing every day and very little is being done. I don't care what anyone says more can be done. It's time we stop hoping the problem will go away because it will not. It will only get worse unless we as a community stand up and say we've had enough and we must see more done to rid our county of this cancer that is destroying our loved ones.

I know some of you that read this article might say a pastor should not talk this way; a pastor should speak of love, well I as a pastor most certainly should speak this way and it is the voice of love. Love for my family and love for my church, and love for your family and love for my town and community. We must as a people stand up and shout it from the house top and tell law enforcement we are standing with you and send a message to the drug dealers we're taking our families back you can no longer sale drugs here! We will report to law enforcement all we know and we as a community we will be watching. We will be the eyes that will expose you! We are taking it back from you and we will be silent no more! I welcome your response to this article.

I AGREE WITH REV. CASPER THE WILKES COUNTY AND ENTIRE COMMUNITY NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND BE YOUR OWN OR FORM AN NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH AND GET THOSE WANNA BE DRUG DEALERS OFF THE STREETS. MY MOTHER WAS ADDICTED AND DIED FROM HER ADDICTION BY GETTING SOME DRUGS THAT WERE BROUGHT IN FROM CLARKE COUNTY SO, PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR PASTOR AND WILKES COUNTY. I NO LONGER LIVE IN WILKES COUNTY BUT, I KEEP UP WITH IT FROM THE LONESTAR STATE. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS
