Melody Monique Gartrell weds Rodney O'Neal Jones on Sept. 20
The bride is the daughter of Cora Gartrell of Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Norman of Lincolnton. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jones of Washington. The Center was decorated with arrangements of red and white roses, white columns adorned with apple red fabric, tea lights, ferns and a water fountain. Bruce Ware, pianist, and Jonathan Kilgore, saxophonist, both of Athens, presented the wedding music. Vocalist was Tameika Hairston of Atlanta. John McLendon of Washington and Kenneth Ross Jr. of Covington were best men. Groomsmen were Walter Jones, the bridegroom's father; Keevin Haynes, cousin of the bridegroom, and Wayne Miller, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, of Washington; Quincy Norman of Colorado Springs, Colo., brother of the bride; Zackary Norman of Kennesaw, Carl Jenkins of Augusta, and Theotis Jones Jr. of Richmond, Va., cousin of the bridegroom. Rodney Jones Jr. of Elberton, the bridegroom's son, was junior groomsman and Marcus Thomas of Stockbridge and Alden Turner of Lithonia were ushers. Mrs. Felisha Echols of Washington was matron of honor and Nic- Cole Newcomb of Austell served as maid of honor. They were attired in long apple red strapless gowns fashioned with ruched bodices and flowing tie-back sashes complemented with pearl bracelets, earrings and necklaces. Bridesmaids were the bridegroom's sisters, Coretta Miller and Nikeya Jones of Washington; Joy Lewis of Augusta and Patreda Dunn of Lithonia, cousins of the bride; Christian Wilder of Grovetown, Tanika Jester of Stockbridge, Latoya Morrell of Decatur, and Kelly Wiley of Stone Mountain. Their long sleeveless chiffon dresses with charmeuse rounded necklines were finished with waist sashes. Pearl bracelets and earrings completed their attire. Junior bridesmaids were Dayzja Gartrell of Washington and Chelsea Norman of Lincolnton, cousins of the bride. Their satin ball gowns were styled with spaghetti-strap bodices. Pearl earrings and necklaces completed their attire. All carried bouquets of Black Magic roses, carnations, gypsophila and oriental lilies wrapped in satin ribbon. The flower girl, Alexis McLean of Washington, was attired in an ivory dress with floral designs on the bodice and tossed white rose petals. James Johnson IV of Athens was ring bearer. Given in marriage by her father, Melvin Norman, the bride was elegant in her Oleg Cassini ivory satin gown designed with a heart-shaped strapless bodice embellished with beaded embroidery. Her organza ball gown skirt ended in a chapel train. Her ivory veil fell from her headpiece of Swarovski crystals. She carried Black Magic roses surrounded by white calla lilies with stems wrapped in ivory satin ribbon. The bride's mother chose an ivory long dress and jacket with silver floral designs at the bottom. Her corsage was an oriental lily. The bridegroom's mother was attired in a sequined champagne two-piece dress complemented by a corsage of Black Magic roses and gypsophila. Reception A reception at The Pope Center followed the ceremony. Hostesses were Decetra Dunn of Lithonia, Kimberly Jackson of Duluth, Phyllis Harris of Lincolnton and Christy Norman of Grovetown, cousins of the bride; and Kimberly Parker of Augusta. Decetra Dunn also tended the guest register. As the bridal party took pictures after the ceremony, guests enjoyed an assortment of appetizers that included red chocolate-covered strawberries, marshmallows, pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, Rice Krispie Treats and punch. Inside the ballroom the bride's table was covered in white with matching white chair covers accented with red sashes. Lovely floral arrangements decorated the tables set with china. Guests' tables, also covered in white with white-covered chairs tied with red sashes, featured arrangements of Black Magic roses, rose petals, and votive candles. Wedding cameras were also on the tables. The wedding cake featured three stacked layers. The ivory confection was garnished with red borders. The bridegroom's cake table featured cheesecake bites. The wedding dinner featured baked chicken with mushroom gravy, roast beef, rice, corn, green beans, tossed salad in Italian dressing, tea and punch. During the evening guests viewed a slideshow of the bridal couple. They also were entertained with a sweetheart song dedicated by the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Mr. and Mrs. Jones are making their home in Conyers. Rehearsal Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jones entertained at a rehearsal dinner at their home on Friday evening following the rehearsal for the Gartrell-Jones wedding. White cloths and magnolia leaves decorated for the occasion. Everyone dined on barbecued chicken, pork barbecue, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, bread and dessert of peach cobbler and sheet cake. The evening was highlighted with live entertainment by saxophonist, James (Bo) Gardner of Augusta.
Guests included wedding party, family and friends.
