Census jobs testing returns to Wilkes next Wed. Jan. 21

Testing is set for next Wednesday, January 21, for short-term census jobs available in Wilkes County as the U.S. Census Bureau gets ready for this spring's portion of the 2010 count of every person in the United States.

Sessions for applications and testing are set for Wednesday, January 21, at 2 p.m. at the Mary Willis Library, said area recruiter Joe Spinello. Part-time and full-time temporary employees are needed for spring 2009.

The government's website, www.2010censusjobs.gov, says that thousands of census takers are needed to update address lists with community residents. Most positions require a valid driver's license and use of a vehicle.

Besides census takers, some of those hired here will work as Crew Leaders or Crew Leader Assistants. These positions each coordinate the schedules and work of a team of census takers and meet with each census taker on a daily basis. Others will perform office work at Local Census Offices, the site states.
