Teachers are expecting the best; Honors Night is set for Jan. 15

Students returned from their winter break Tuesday, January 6. After the long rest, teachers are expecting the students to be on their best behavior and work hard this semester. Report Cards were sent home on Thursday, January 8. Students were also given the quarterly newsletter, Tiger Paw, which is written by the "Tiger Corner" news staff. To reward students who passed science, Georgia history, and math, a "pass party" was held on Friday, January 9. Students were allowed to play outdoors during second connections class, and enjoyed some candy.

W-WMS students have the opportunity to join the NBA! No, they are not going to play professional basketball - the students are encouraged to qualify for a new club, "No Bad Attitudes." Any student with a record clear of office referrals, teacher detentions, or lunch detentions for the month will be invited to a celebration for their good behavior the following month.

Honors Night is on January 15 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students who qualify for an invitation had to make "A" or "A/B" honor roll on their first and second nine-week report cards. Students can bring two guests and supper is provided. Additional tickets will not be sold to attend Honors Night this year, due to seating limitations.

Sixth- and eighth-grade students had a scoliosis screening in the gymnasium, January 8. Students were called out by class to be examined by members of the health department, and the W-WMS school nurse, Nancy Barnett.

The Washington-Wilkes wrestling team lost a home match against Hart County, January 6. Dennis Hagan, eighth grade, had the most successes for this match. He won one of his matches by points, another by a pin and lost one by a pin.
