Milton Turner has advanced to the next level of the National Geographic Society's National Georgraphy Bee after winning the first round at Washington-Wilkes Elementary School earlier this year. The competition for fourth through eighth graders is in its 21st year in thousands of schools across the United States and in the five U.S. territories.

All students in the fourth and fifth grades were given a written test to determine who qualified for the oral bee. Twenty students at W-WES participated in the local Bee which was won by Milton. He will next take a written exam to determine state competitors. Milton is the son of Milton and Anita Turner. He is pictured above with W-WES principal Wanda Jenkins.
