Funeral services for Gordon Griffin "Mort" Hill of Alamo were held Thursday, January 8, 2009, at the Alamo United Methodist Church with Pastors Andy Brownley of Alamo and Stan Sullivan of Timmonsville, S.C., officiating. Burial was in the Alamo City Cemetery. He died January 5 after a short illness.

Mr. Hill was a native of Bibb County and lived most of his life in Greene and Wilkes counties. He was the son of the late Gordon and Emily Hill of Wilkes County. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro with a degree in mathematics. He served in the U.S. Army with tours in Virginia and Korea. Afterwards, he began a career in banking, working at the Citizens Bank in Greensboro, the Farmers Bank in Union Point, and the Washington Loan and Banking Co. and Farmers and Merchants Bank of Washington. He was a member of Phillips Mill Baptist Church in Tyrone. He was an avid sportsman, especially enjoying golf, fishing, and football.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Sikes Hill; and four aunts, Elsi Griffin, Hazel Lunceford, Marie Miner, and Virginia Skertich.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or any church of choice.

Towns Funeral Home of Alamo was in charge of arrangements.
