Parables

I had never really thought about my writings as being parabolic until this one newspaper listed my column as "Parables," which I thought was a wonderful compliment because Jesus taught in parables which are stories to illustrate moral and spiritual issues and standards.

I don't know who got it started but it needs to stop and that is this notion that once you get saved then that's about all that there is to it and that the only important thing to be done or considered is salvation.

What a misleading thought! Of course that makes the old devil happy. If he can get us to just stop short of our goal then he's happy. So, once they are saved then what do they do? There's a lot more that follows living the Christian life. That thought of once you are saved then you have got it made in the shade is sending millions down the wrong path, believe you me, and now even other faiths are being drawn to this belief.

Satan is winning, but not for long because God has called out true men of God, true prophets of God to warn folks and preach the gospel truth before it's everlasting too late. One fellow brought this to my attention when he said that this church was growing like wild fire and the preacher only preached the plan of salvation. Nothing more and nothing less.

Now that worked fine for Billy Graham because he went from city to city on crusades and once they got saved then hopefully they found them a church so they could be discipled to Christ, taken off the baby bottle and put on meat.

You see, that's the order in which the Bible teaches this. A local church should preach salvation and then preach standards as did Christ. Jesus is our example and He taught and preached salvation but He also taught in parables as to how to live this Christian life.

How do you live a Christian life in a secular society full of sin and temptations on every side? It takes more than just being saved, because to endure we need all that God has got to offer in these trying times.

Jesus was a minister, a teacher, preacher, healer, leader, but most of all He was our Savior. Can you say amen?
