Mary C. Reid WOM members gather January 6 at FBC

The Mary C. Reid Women on Mission of the First Baptist Church met in the Conference Room Tuesday morning, January 6.

Mrs. Dennis Hopkins led the reading of the WMU Watchword and gave the opening prayer.

Mrs. Lynwood Cofer offered the prayer for those with special needs.

It was decided to donate $100 again to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering as the monthly mission in action project.

Mrs. Eldon Holes gave the missionary prayer calendar and led in prayer for the missionaries.

Mrs. Gene Pollock presented a program on what is known about Mary C. Reid, First Baptist Church member and missionary, taken largely from her preserved letters to Rev. and Mrs. Henry Tupper dated l856-l858. She met and married Rev. Thomas A. Reid and they sailed to Africa in l857 as missionaries. Her letters told of her experiences there. She and her baby died in childbirth May 17, l858 and were buried in Africa.

Mrs. Hopkins closed the meeting with prayer.

Members present were Mrs. Mary Ann Bentley, Mrs. Lynwood Cofer, Mrs. Joe Harris, Mrs. Eldon Holes, Mrs. Dennis Hopkins, Mrs. Gene Pollock and Mrs. Charles Reese.
