'Battle of the Books' planned for Friends meeting on Feb. 12
The Friends of the Mary Willis Library will gather at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 12, in the meeting room of the library for the annual membership meeting.
In acknowledgement of the 230th anniversary of the Battle of Kettle Creek, the program will be called "A Battle of the Books." In a show-andtell format, members and friends will present one of their favorite books, briefly telling why it is special to them.
"Each February our meeting is a sharing time among friends," said Martha Coulter, vice-president and program chairman. "We always enjoy finding out what books other people love to read."
In other business, members will be updated on "Based on the Book," which will be held on March 20 at the Retro Cinema. Coordinated by Karen Stubbs and with special thanks to corporate sponsors Dana and Richard Kibbey, this Friends of the Library fund-raiser features a cocktail reception followed by a presentation of the classic movie "Rebecca." Attendees will also receive door prizes, a favor tote, and popcorn. A few tickets are still available at $25 each and may be obtained by calling Nita Latimer at 706-678-7435. Profits will help to alleviate the library's budget shortfall for this year.
The Friends of the Library organization contributes to and supports library programs and activities. The Summer Reading Program for youth is a major emphasis each year, along with donations for the purchase of books and other materials. The Friends also promote the library through fund-raising events such as the annual Book, Bake and Plant Sale held each May. Anyone who would like to join in the work of Friends is cordially invited to attend the meeting.
Dues may be paid at the meeting or may be mailed to Oliver Myers, treasurer; P.O. Box 901; Washington, GA 30673. Dues are: Individual, $10.00; Family, $15.00; Good Friend, $25.00; Best Friend, $50.00.
