What am I gonna do?

By GARY TOOLE

I was visiting a nursing home and as my wife and I walked down the hallway greeting the residents, one lady was sitting in a chair outside her room. She was bowing her head over and over and repeating, "What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do?"

I told my wife, "That's the question I ask myself quite often."

In life when we are caught in a twix and in trouble "up to our eyeballs," we find ourselves saying, "What am I gonna do?" I say, "Lord, what am I gonna do?" That's when the Holy Spirit speaks to my heart and says, "I'll tell you what you need to do. Take it to the Lord in prayer."

I remember the words to that old hymn, "Many are the heartaches that will come to you; keep your trust in Jesus, He will see you through. Never will you find a friend so kind and true, take it to the Lord in prayer."

And there down on my knees I say, "Lord, you know I'm yours lock, stock and barrel and you know only you can do for me what I can't do for myself. I don't know what to do, but Lord, I know I can trust in you."

Then as my good friend, Sister Rose Howell, always says, "Pray until you have prayed, because God specializes in answering prayers. He's the way maker and the heart regulator."

Always remember Proverbs 3:5- 6, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths."

Yes, that's what I'm gonna do!
