Lindsey assumes curator position at McDuffie Museum
Jenny Lindsey of Washington, has accepted the position of Curator/Director of the new McDuffie Museum in Thomson which opened in early January.
Lindsey graduated magna cum laude from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2008 with a BFA in Historic Preservation. While at SCAD, she received many academic awards and scholarships including the prestigious "Make a Difference" Preservation Scholarship, SCAD Art Portfolio Scholarship, and two scholarships from the Washington Historical Society.
The McDuffie Museum just concluded a display called Key Ingredients: America by Food, from the Smithsonian Institution which is a historical view of our country's foods and food preparations. The museum was one of the few places in Georgia that was chosen to host the exhibit.
The museum reopened March 3 with an exhibit of Russian Icons. The exhibit, "Windows to Heaven," comes from Daniel Bibb, a private collector, and will be on display until June 3. Part of this exhibit was on display at the Washington Historical Museum in December 2007, but the McDuffie Museum, due to two large, open galleries, has the opportunity to host a larger part of Bibb's collection including pieces that have never been on public display. `"I am very excited to have these beautiful religious pieces here during the Easter season and we are expecting a lot of church groups to come make this a part of their Easter celebration," said Lindsey.
Admission is free but donations will be accepted for the care and restoration of the art. Lindsey is also busy collecting information and artifacts for local McDuffie County history which will be a permanent display at the museum.
Lindsey encourages everyone in Washington to visit the McDuffie Museum located at 121 Main Street in Thomson. For tours or more information about the museum, call 706-595-9923.
