Website workshop set for March 14 at Athens Tech.
Do you think a "domain" is a quaint old term kings used to call their territory and a "server" is the guy who brings your order at a restaurant? Are you still trying to figure out what a "default" is? Then this internet workshop is definitely for you!
Anne Jenkins, artist and owner of The Point of Art Gallery & Studio in Union Point, will conduct a Website Made Simple workshop on Saturday, March 14, at the Athens Technical College, Athens campus. The workshop is sponsored by the Arts Development Council of Georgia (adcg).
Jenkins is not a techie-geek, she's an acclaimed artist. However, she can show you how to easily build two websites for free while, at the same time, developing a profitable website with a minimal investment of time. Jenkins will also demonstrate another low-cost, easy to maintain website.
"If I can do it, anyone can," Jenkins said. "I have a wonderful friend who can talk computers to me for 10 minutes and I haven't a clue what he said. But he did teach me the basics and drove himself crazy at the same time."
Now Jenkins is teaching the workshop to help others who stare at a computer blankly while wishing someone could teach them the basics of website creation and design and, at the same time, provide the tools to sell and market their work.
Jenkins will take the participants through a hands-on, live demonstration of the many options now offered. Participants must be able to access their e-mail accounts from a computer other than their own. It is very important to bring a CD with low-res photos of your art and a "can-do" attitude, a notepad and pencil to take notes. This is one workshop you will not want to miss!
The workshop will run in two sessions from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m approximately. Fee is $10 for all ADCG members and $20 for nonmembers. Contact Donna Butler, vice-chairman of the Arts Development Council for registration at 706-559-4841 or storyteller826@ bellsouth.net. Also, the registration forms can be found on the ADCG website, www.adcg.org.
