Birmingham's Joyful Singers Choir to present concert at First United Methodist on April 28
The Joyful Singers Choir The Joyful Singers Choir from Hunter Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala., will present a program at the First United Methodist Church Tuesday, April 28, at 11 a.m. in the new fellowship hall.
This choir is composed of a group of fun-loving and dedicated senior adults who range in age from those in their 60's to those in their 90's who love to sing. They enjoy singing in churches, nursing homes, retirement facilities, malls, senior adult meetings as well as any other place or opportunity God gives them to sing. All their music is presented from memory.
There has been a senior adult choir in existence at Hunter Street Baptist for over 30 years. The first choir was organized by Dr. Claude Rhea from Samford University in the l970's.
The choir sings in the Birmingham area in the fall and then takes a four-day spring tour that in the past has included trips to Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida and Mississippi. The 2009 tour program entitled "Blessed Hope" is a collection of songs, scriptures and testimonies that proclaim the message of hope that is offered through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This tour will include stops in Denmark and Orangeburg, S.C., and Washington before the choir returns to Birmingham where it will be performing the homecoming concert at Hunter Street on Wednesday night, April 29.
Shay Harris, director of music at First United Methodist, invites everyone to attend and be a part of the much-anticipated program.
