Tour committee grateful for help

TO THE EDITOR:

A special "Thank You" to all of Washington, Danburg, and Wilkes County for the wonderful support of the 2009 Spring Tour of Homes. Special thanks to the 20 homeowners who opened their homes to visitors.

"Thanks to Sue Davison, who organized and sponsored the Gone With The Wind festivities and to Farmers and Merchants Bank and Farmers State Bank who provided their support. To the downtown shops, restaurants, B&Bs, hotel, motel, and many friends and families that housed and entertained our guests. Thanks to Farmers Furniture and Badcock Furniture along with Deb Tally, Debbie Bennett, and Otter Creek Nurseries for the success of our "Decorator's Showcase House." Thanks to the Womans Club who served lunch and hosted the tour homes, to the Kiwanis Club along with other organizations and churches that provided transportation on Saturday, to the workers who entertained and poured champagne for 80 guests on Friday night at the dessert soiree, and to the editor and staff members of The News Reporter, who backed us all the way.

Appreciation to the city and county officials who allowed us the use of the city and county for the weekend - everything vista looked great. Special thanks to Bobby Heff- ner who opened the Old Danburg School and brought plants all the way from Sebring, Florida, for the event. Thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for co-sponsoring and serving every day to promote and help make the tour a success. Thanks to the local realtors' offices that mailed brochures all over the country and to the 400 volunteers that the Tour required. In a time when the economy is tight, we brought visitors to Washington to spend their money to benefit the entire community. We could not have done it without all of you. Everyone should feel proud. It was a job well done. A heart felt "Thank You" is extended to all.
