Sardis Baptist Church enjoyed a great service Sunday morning. The congregational singing was led by Joyce Fry with Pam Hall at the piano. Rev. Jim Newsome gave the children's message at the altar and afterwards the children went to the annex with Courtney Gunter for children's church. Joyce Fry sang a wonderful solo special. Pastor Newsome brought a special message on "When All is Said and Done" from Matthew. Prayer meeting was held Wednesday evening at the Echols Home. .Vacation Bible School is in full swing this week at Sardis with a bunch of children and adults enrolling Sunday evening. Commencement will be Friday evening. A hotdog supper will be given in the annex at 6:30 p.m. Friday for the children, their parents, sisters, and brothers, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, and anyone interested in attending. The program will follow after the meal. .The prayer list continues for Johnny Adams, Henry Swann, Grady Rogers, Connie Peek, David Smith, Douglas Mathews, George and Mozelle Casey, Dan and Mildred McAvoy, Tommy Thaxton, Nancy Moon, Frances Vinson, Bella Bradford, Shirley Chafin, Frankie Jones, Aubrey Jackson, Jenelle Newsome, Mrs. Burkett, Charlotte Adams Hyatt, Gary Rogers, and Gloria Harris. .Johnny Adams has started radiation treatments in Augusta. Our prayers go out to him and his mother, Peggy Echols, that they will be safe as they travel to Augusta every day and that Johnny will have a good and complete recovery. .Johnny Boatwright celebrated his 48th birthday Friday, May 29. Amber Rachel Gamble, daughter of Bill Gamble and Connie Boatwright Gamble, of Martinez celebrated her 22nd birthday Monday, May 18. Barry William Echols of Ball ground celebrated his 50th birthday Friday, June 5. .Bonnie Boatwright met her two sisters, Frankie Jones of Athens and Martha Jones of Bogart, for lunch at the Red Lobster in Athens Wednesday. . Peggy Echols, Martha Hall and Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed attending revival services at Beaverdam Baptist Church Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings of last week. .Twenty-five members of the 1956 graduating class of Oglethorpe County High School, along with spouses, met at the home of Carole Morgan on Collier Church Road near Comer Saturday for a reunion. Pork barbecue and stew with all the trimmings and desserts were served. A lot of laughter filled the air and much fun was enjoyed as everyone caught up with happenings from the last gathering. Plans were made for future events and pictures were made. Wayne Lance of Morrow and also of Metasville asked the blessing before the meal. Attending from Wilkes County were Wayne and Marcia Lance, Minan Blanchard Maxwell, Doris Smith Walker, and J.W. and Bonnie Smith Boatwright. .One of the classmates, J.B. Harrison, spent 20 years in the submarine service in the U.S. Navy. He has written a book, "Killer," which is about his experiences of being on a submarine and about many frightening events that took place while he was serving his country. I have read the book and it is quite interesting. I cannot imagine spending so much time under water in a submarine, but I will say it was a hard life at sea, but they had buddy relationships with everyone else there. There were good times when they went on land an out on the town. All is well with this Southern country boy who is back home in Lexington and who was my classmate. God bless him, the servicemen and women and God bless America. .Rosemary Gresham, Cassandra Campbell, and Adrienno James honored Brooke Berry with a baby shower at the Third Shiloh building in Washington Saturday afternoon, June 6. Brooke received many nice and useful gifts which she greatly appreciated. Attending from our community were Ruby Arnold, Aaliya and Aniyah Berry, Kay Berry, Nina Boatwright, and Bonnie Boatwright. .Clyde and Sandy Whittington took Zachery and Kyle Frankel and Avery Hall camping at Big Hart Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday evening Sandy carried Zachery anad Kyle home to Crawford, but Clyde and Avery remained at Big Hart until Wednesday. .Bonnie Boatwright joined James and Kathleen Canup and Margaret Peterman of Lexington Tuesday afternoon to go to Elberton to play bingo with other seniors at Wendy's. .Terri Chafin Diaz, Willard and Diana Queen, and Dallas, Ronnie Chafin, and L.E. Chafin had Sunday dinner with Troy and Shirley Chafin. .Buck and Linda Echols' visitors Sunday were Greg and Angela Armour, Cody and Hunter, Samantha Callaway, Sissy Smith and Abby, Richard and Lou Heard, Mattie and Hank. .Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed visiting Ruth Flynt Saturday afternoon of last week. Raeleigh Armour and Lila White visited Bonnie Thursday afternoon. Bonnie also enjoyed visiting Mildred Sisson Sunday afternoon. .One day as a little girl who will enter the third grade in Washington in August was visiting me on my porch, she said, "Miss Bonnie, when I grow up I want to be just like you." I must say that really made my day. .Mrs. J.B. (Annis) Saxon was honored by her children, Rev. and Mrs. Herman Bradley and Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Saxon, with a surprise birthday gettogether at Northside Baptist Church in Calhoun Falls, S.C., Sunday, June 7. Annis was 90 years old June 3. In lieu of gifts the children suggested bringing flowers from their garden or a card with a flower. A large number attended. Attending from Rayle were Mrs. Carl Sisson, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Wheatley, and Mrs. Gene Winfrey. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Adams also attended. .Faye Johnson of Gray spent from Wednesday to Saturday with her sister, Ruby Arnold. They visited their niece, Robin Hubbard, in Lexington one day and then visited all their sisters. .Richard Burkett, Joann Perez, and Frances Fendley enjoyed eating at the Pizza Hut in Washington Tuesday. . Debra (Bobby) Armour, Frances Fendley, and Rebecca Armour went to Athens and browsed around one day. They came back and picked up Bobby and continued on to Thomson at ate at the Burger King. .Richard Burkett, Joann Perez, and Frances Fendley visited George and Mozelle Casey Sunday afternoon. George and Mozelle are both feeling better, we are glad to report. Mozelle did not have broken ribs as was reported last week, but was bruised up badly. .Ann Williamson enjoyed spending Monday through Sunday with her brother, Bill Walker, and Elaine in North Carolina.
