Laytoya, Kimberly Jenkins receive Rosa Grant Warthen Scholarship
Laytoya and Kimberly Jenkins Laytoya and Kimberly Jenkins received the Rosa Grant Warthen Scholarship Sunday evening, May 24, at the Reese J. Booker and Rosa Grant Warthen Memorial Fundraising Service at Mark's Tabernacle Baptist Church.
The scholarship certificates were valued at $150.00 each. The students are members of Heard's Chapel Baptist Church and graduates of Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School. They are the daughters of James and Peggy Jenkins; and the granddaughters of Mrs. Mary Lois Evans.
Latoya is attending Georgia Southern University majoring in Educational Research. Kimberly is a sophomore at the University of Georgia, majoring in Pharmacy.
Tracey A. Jackson was the worship leader for the program and the devotional was led by Enoch Booker Jr., Larry Campbell, and Joe L. Towns. The scripture was read by Callie Thorpe and songs of inspiration were sung by Minister Samuel Daniel, Rev. Dennis Quinn, Springfield Mass Choir, Rev. Lance Pitts, and the Fort Valley University Philharmonic Chorale.
Rev. Quinn and Mrs. Nancy Gunby spoke briefly on how they remember the two scholarship honorees. The candle lighting service was led by Clara Sutton. Dr. Dwayne Crew of Fort Valley University and pastor of Clower CME Church, was the guest speaker.
