Washington Mayor Willie Burns elected to GMA Bd. of Directors

Washington Mayor Willie Burns was elected to the Board of Directors for the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) during the association's annual meeting in Savannah June 23.

Burns also serves as chairman of GMA's Public Safety Policy Committee.

"We are pleased to have Mayor Burns taking on this leadership position," said GMA Executive Director Jim Higdon. "He's well respected by his colleagues, and I'm sure he'll provide great leadership to the cities in the state."

Burns and city leaders joined municipal leaders from all over Georgia last week at the annual meeting. City Administrator Mike Eskew and Councilmen Pamela Eaton, Rev. G.L. Avery, Edward Pope Jr., Nathaniel Cullars, Maceo Mahoney, and Ames Barnett took part in municipal training sessions on economic development, emergency management, open meetings and records, municipal finance, and other topics of interest.

Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit, and technical assistance services to its 500 member cities.
