Chamber members hear of stimulus help for businesses

Carrie Lokey, from the One-Stop Workforce Investment Center in Thomson, speaks to members of the Washington Wilkes Chamber of Commerce on the new Work Experience Program Tuesday evening at the Wilkes County courthouse. The federal Workforce Investment Act's program is designed to get new people hired at no cost to the hiring business. "Work Experience is a program your stimulus money is working to help your business get the workers it needs, but cannot afford," Lokey said. "The employer will be able to have employees for 90 days at no cost to them with the understanding that when the 90 days is up, they will do their best to hire the employee as a permanent of their business." For more information, contact the Washington-Wilkes Chamber of Commerce at 706-678-2013.
