Funeral services for Lizzie Dill White, 82, of Washington, will be held Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Washington, with Rev. Charles Belton officiating. The interment will be in City West Cemetery. She died Friday, June 26, at Heritage Healthcare of Wilkes, Washington.

Mrs. White was a native of Wilkes County and the daughter of the late Mary Dill and Zack Mercier. She moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., at an early age and became a housekeeper. She lived in Brooklyn for 30 years and then returned to Washington. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where she served on the Mother Board and other church activities.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Hulie and Margaret White Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters, Elizabeth W. King and her husband Arthur of Washington, and Olivia W. Smith of Bristol, Conn.; six grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Mercier Rouse and Annette Mercier Tutt, both of Lincolnton; and three brothers, Ollie Mercier, Marvin Mercier, and Burch Lee Mercier, all of Lincolnton.

Davenport-McLendon Mortuary Inc., of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
