Howard Gartrell

Funeral services for Howard Gartrell, 56, of Washington were held Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at the Springfield Baptist Church, Washington, with Rev. Norman Williams officiating. Interment was in the City West Cemetery, Washington. He died Tuesday, June 2, in St. Mary's Hospital in Athens.

Mr. Gartrell was the son of Annie Bell Bruce and the late Frank Gartrell. He was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and graduated from Washington Central High School in 1970. He was employed with Design and Welding Doors for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Gartrell; a daughter, Tamarra Gartrell of Athens; two sons, Terrell Gartrell of Athens, and Osric Gaye of Rayle; six grandchildren, Alexis Gartrell, Dominique Gartrell, Kendrea McKlinney, Zykea Peek, Athens, Chasiti Gaye, and Melacia Cullars of Rayle, his mother, Annie Bell Bruce, Jacksonville, Fla.; a stepmother, Sarah Gartrell, Washington; a brother, Frankie Gartrell of Athens; and a sister, Annie Ruth Gartrell of Washington.

Pallbearers included Leroy Binns, Aaron Cofer, Willie H. Porter, Rev. Robert Crawford, Travis Randolph, Ricky Gaye, and Larry Binns.

McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
