Tylers return from tour of castles, other places in Scotland

2009-07-02 / Personalities

Alex and Kay Tyler have returned from a tour of Scotland.

They took a tour of three castles, the Crathes Castle and gardens, Glamus Castle (the homeplace of the late Queen Mother), and Edinburgh Castle, and actually spent two nights in another castle.

They visited the famous St. Andrews Golf Course and took a cruise on Loch Lomond. They toured the cities of Glascow and Edinburgh and the Highlands of Scotland. I saw the pictures of the beautiful flowers there, especially roses and rhododendrons. They even looked for the Loch Ness Monster. With all our strange animal sightings, it may have been here in Wilkes County.

They tasted Haggas which is oatmeal, ground lamb, and spices served with mashed turnips. That didn't sound too tasty to me. They enjoyed tea and scones at a tearoom on the River Feigh.

They had pictures of the long-haired highland cows. They also got a picture of a bride and groom as they were leaving their wedding that had taken place at the ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral. The groom wore a kilt and the bride wore a white wedding gown, but also had on a big white hat.

Another unusual thing was seeing the Scottish plaid taxis. Of course, since Kay loves dogs, she had a picture of a dog cemetery where the dogs buried there were all soldiers' dogs.

They really had a great time and saw some beautiful country, but they said nothing was as pretty as home.
