Sardis Baptist Church had a good service Sunday morning with George Pate filling in for Rev. Jim Newsome who was called back to Florida to conduct a funeral. Karan accompanied him on the trip. Joyce Fry led in the congregational singing as Courtney Gunter played the piano. Joyce also brought the children's message after which they dispersed to the annex for children's church with Tina Boatwright. We had several visitors at Sardis and were glad they came and want them to come back. .Remember prayer meeting every Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. at the Echols Home. Everyone is invited. .Our prayers are with Jim and Karan Newsome as they travel and with all the vacationers too. I thought a cold front was supposed to come through here last week, but if it did, I missed it. Maybe it was too short to catch. .Taylor Walker had four wisdom teeth taken out Wednesday, June 24. We hope everything is going well for him. Taylor is the son of Sidney and Cheryl Walker. .Billy and Doris Walker and Maurice and Whitney Taylor had Father's Day lunch with Mike and Debra Sherrer and Lindsay. Joining them later for ice cream and cake were Beatrice Sherrer of Washington; Janet Lewis and Ashton of Athens; and Becky Orr and Isabella of Lawrenceville. .Louise Smith and Lucile Edmonds of Anderson, S.C., came and spent Monday and Tuesday of last week with Billy and Doris Walker. Doris, Louise and Lucile went to Jefferson Tuesday to Real Deals and browsed around in other shops. .Frances Fendley, Jo Ann Perez, and Richard Burkett went on an 11-day road trip in seven states. In Blountstown, Fla., they visited Richard's stepsister and attended the Burkett family reunion. In Pensacola, Fla., they visited Richard's 92-year-old stepmother. They traveled to Mobile, Ala., and saw Warship SS Alabama and Alabama's Korean and Vietnam Memorials. Traveling on to New Orleans they went to hear a blues band on Bourbon Street. They then went on to San Antonio, Texas, and saw the Alamo, took a trolley tour of San Antonio, and took a boat ride in the canal around the city. In Brownwood, Texas, they spent four days with Jo Ann's daughter, Cindy Francois, and four children. Cindy's husband Mike was off on a job in another state and they missed seeing him.
.Bonnie Boatwright went to Crawford Tuesday where she joined Helen Smith and Gertrude Jones for a trip to Athens and then on to Winder for lunch at the Golden Corral. .Hope Remsen and Delaney of Evans spent a few days last week with Peggy Echols. . J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright and Connie Boatwright Gamble of Martinez spent Wednesday in Mableton and Austell visiting with the family of Aubrey Jackson and attending his funeral. Aubrey was the husband of Kathryn Boatwright Jackson. .Bryce Frankel of Crawford spent Sunday night with his grandparents, Clyde and Sandy Whittington. .Peggy Echols enjoyed Sunday dinner with Tony and Marian Hammond in the Crossroads community. Doris Smathers of North Carolina was also there for the day. .Helen Smith and Gertrude Jones of Crawford came by and got Bonnie Boatwright Friday and they enjoyed going to Washington to eat supper at McDonald's. We love the beauty of Washington. .Buck and Linda Echols attended the Echols family reunion Sunday at the Lions Club in Washington. . Bonnie Boatwright joined Helen Smith and Gertrude Jones of Crawford and Dorothy Wallace of Arnoldsville Friday evening for a trip to Washington and supper at McDonald's.
