Due to unexpected circumstances the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department has moved its final sign-up day for youth football from August 25 to Tuesday, August 18. Players who are signed up by the deadline will be fitted for new game uniforms on August 29.

The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor Fun in the Sun 2009 on Saturday, August 15, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the Liberty Street Park. Admission is free. There will be water games, a dunking booth, volleyball tournament, watermelon eating contest, food, drinks, music, and dance.

A bike ride and barbecue benefit for Brenda Bunch will be held Saturday, August 8, at the old Tignall gin house, 136 Church Street, Tignall. A horseshoe tournament will begin at 1 p.m and a silent auction will be held with half and half, tickets and door prizes. Melani e Hart, Ca Christian singer and songwriter, will give a "Concert on The Square" in downtown Washington, Saturday, August 22, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Michael Moore and Amethyst Winn and the "Purpose of Life Singers" will open for the singer and will sing during intermission. A love offering will be taken. Bring own lawn chairs.

Christ City of Prayer Church will begin a series of Bible study on "The Kingdom of God Revealed" Wednesday night, August 12, at 7 p.m. The church is a multi-cultural, non-denominational church where all are welcome. The study will be taught by Minister Bryant Ware.
