Gary Norman (right) provided an interesting and enlightening program on the nation's increasing problem with illegal immigrants to the Washington Rotary Club at its regular Thursday lunch meeting. He provided a lot of information including a history of how immigration has been handled in the past and some suggestions about what might be done to solve the current dilemma. His examples and facts were quite helpful in raising the group's understanding of the far-reaching effects of illegal immigration. A former classmate, Roger Walker, introduced Norman to the club. The regeneration project will include a new inpatient wing and specialty center, in addition to the renovation of the existing emergency room, rehab therapy, respiratory, and radiology units. Construction is expected to take approximately 28 months. WMH Administrator Marvin Goldman announced that the parking lot on the corner of Spring Street and Hospital Drive is closed during construction. Patients and visitors are asked to park in the front parking lots on Gordon Street or in designated parking along Hospital Drive. Wilkes County paramedics and firefighters tend to two of the four people injured in a Sunday afternoon wreck on Highway 78 near Newtown Road. Georgia State Patrol troopers are investigating the wreck that saw a Saturn sedan and a Chevrolet minivan collide nearly head-on. The unrestrained driver of the Saturn was ejected, and she and her passenger were taken to MCG for treatment. The driver and passenger of the van were transported to Wills Memorial for treatment.
