Alexander J. Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Henderson of Lincolnton, celebrated his first birthday on July 8 and was treated to a party on Saturday, July 11, with family and friends at the home of his maternal grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Ficklen Guin.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles was the theme for the party and the patio and deck were decorated with brightly-colored balloons.

The spectacular birthday cake, a three-tiered creation by Mrs. Shanon Rentz of Lincolnton, featured a base tier of cars, a middle tier of trains with Alex's name spelled out in bright red, and a top tier of planes. The top tier was taken off for Alex's enjoyment while the rest was cut for the guests.

Enjoyed with birthday cake were hamburgers, chips and several churns of homemade ice cream made by Rev. Guin and Alex's great-aunt, Mrs. Linda Guinn of Danburg.

Celebrating with Alex and his parents were his grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Guin, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Henderson of Lincolnton and Mr. and Mrs. Richard DuBois of Danburg; great-grandmother, Mrs. Sharon DuBois of Crawfordville; great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Martha Bell Guin of Lincolnton; great-uncle and aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Huff of Elberton and Mrs. Linda Guinn of Danburg; uncles, aunts and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Henderson, AJ and Gracie, Matt Henderson and Chris Guin of Lincolnton; and friends, Garrett O'Neill, LeAnn Walton, Shanon Rentz and Curry Hogan of Lincolnton, Amanda Woods, Thomas Albea, Yvonne Albea and Gene Reid of Washington.
