It looks like back to school shopping is worse than Christmas shopping. Wait till the kids are back in school before you oldies, like me, go shopping. I wonder if all those new school clothes make for better learning in school. I certainly hope so. I remember getting a new book bag that we called a book satchel and a new lunchbox and not a new one every year either. That was it! We carried our books in our arms in high school. We didn't use lunchboxes in high school, but we used paper bags. Of course we were never given a list of items needed in school for the year. We just knew we needed a notebook, notebook paper, and pencils. Times have really changed from buying a few items to being big spenders. We didn't even have alarm clocks to get us up. It was the rooster who woke us up. .Now, guess who is back in school? ME! I will be teaching fourth grade science for the first two weeks of school. Science was always my favorite. I think I will go out school clothes shopping. New clothes make a better teacher. .Alex Tyler has been a patient at Wills Memorial Hospital since Tuesday of last week, but was dismissed Sunday. We pray that he continues to improve. Surprising Alex and Kay was the visit from their son, Jeff Tyler of Washington, D.C. Their son, Greg Tyler, and his family of Hoschton, also came down on Saturday. Greg had already spent last Wednesday with his dad at the hospital. Kermit Hocutt wanted to be sure that his name is in the Tignall news for seeing one person from Tignall (Kay Tyler) and one from Washington, D.C. (Jeff Tyler), on Saturday. Okay, Kermit, you have now had your chance to be in the Tignall news. .Jeff Tyler of Washington, D.C., visited his grandmother, Mildred Tyler, while he was here over the weekend. He also visited his great aunt, Marjorie Tyler, in Washington. .Preaching for Tignall Baptist Church Sunday morning and Sunday night was Brian Henderson of Beech Island, S.C. He is the grandson of Sara Frances Henderson. Sara Frances and Brian's father, Creight Henderson of Beech Island; Betty Reese, and Barbara Henderson of Washington came especially to hear Brian's message. We were all very proud of him. (I'm one of the family members too.) .Albert and Eudora Huyck enjoyed the Huyck family reunion at the Cumberland Falls State Park in Kentucky last week. They spent Monday through Thursday in Kentucky.

.Celeste Adams went to Gainesville where her grandsons were participating in the archery tournament. She brought Connor and Chase Coots of Ranger home with her for a visit from Sunday until Wednesday. .Guests of Dave and Tody Derrick Sunday were Mike and Sharon Derrick of Loganville. .Layton and Gloria Harris spent from Wednesday through Sunday in Ellijay. They enjoyed lots of rain during the week. .David and Nancy Hilley spent Tuesday night with Mr. and Mrs. Stacy Hilley, Owen and Warren in Commerce. Owen returned home with David and Nancy Wednesday and spent the night. Stacy Hilley visited the David Hilleys Sunday and brought Owen back to spend the night again. I'm beginning to think Owen loves to visit his grandparents. .We are sorry to hear that Donald Ware is in the hospital in Elberton. Let's keep him in our prayers. Also remember Myrline Thornton, Frances Vinson, Calli Nickels, Christine Burton who will be having surgery this week, and Brenda Bunch. Remember the barbecue benefit for Brenda at the Ginn House in Tignall Saturday. .Leon and Linda Aycock visited with Leon's mom, Grace Aycock in Lincolnton, Saturday night. We are glad to hear she is much better. .The community extends our sincere sympathy to the family of Gary Rogers. Our prayers go out to his wife Kim, his sons, Chris and Jonathan, and his mother, Marjorie Rogers. . Independence United Methodist Church had a christening for Dylan Jakob Richardson of Appling. He is the grandson of their pastor, Virginia Best. . Be sure and attend the Charlotte Ritchie concert at Tignall Baptist Church Sunday night, August 9, at 6 p.m. You will receive a blessing from this concert.
