Sardis Baptist Church invites you to revival services starting Sunday, August 9, at 11 a.m. A covered dish dinner will be served in the annex immediately afterwards. The evening services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings, August 9, 10, and 11. Rev. Donnie Berry, pastor of Mallorysville Baptist Church, will be the guest speaker. There will be special singing. .Sardis Baptist Church had several visitors at the morning service Sunday. Jim and Karan Newsome had their daughter Mindi and her husband Dave with them. Preston and Joyce Fry, Jazmine and Jeremiah, had several relatives visiting with them. We had a good crowd. Courtney Gunter played the piano as Joyce Fry led the singing. The children's message was given at the altar by Rev. Jim Newsome. After they left to go to the annex for children's church with Cody Armour, Pastor Newsome brought the message, "Lordship," from the book of John. Another great service was held Sunday evening. .Our heartfelt prayers go out to the family of Gary Rogers. He was the nephew of Clyde Whittington of our community. His mother, Margie, grew up in our community. Our love and sympathy goes out to her, his wife Kim, two sons, and daughter, and all the family. He will be greatly missed. .Prayers continue for Jenelle Newsome, Trey Berry, Brent Sherrer, Randy Boatwright, Troy Chafin, Frank Walker, Marion and Millie Mansfield, Maude Mauldin, Blanche Armour, Don Wheatley, Bobby Armour, Douglas Armour, Brenda Bunch, Calli Nickels, David Smith, Douglas Mathews, Grady Rogers, Johnny Adams, Tom Bufford, Robert and Edythe Harper, Marty Echols, Travis Adams, Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell, Dan McAvoy, Ann Williamson, and Charlotte Adams Hyatt. . Our condolences to the family of Mildred McAvoy whose funeral was Monday at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. She was 89 years of age and she and Dan had been married 66 years in June. She was the aunt of Joe Hardy of our community and Emilie Rorie of the Echols Home of our community. .Our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Laura Hester whose funeral was Sunday. She was the mother of Ann Wideman and Mary Wideman and the sister of Hazel Callaway and Annie Neal Combs Crook. . Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell enjoyed having Virginia Hunter and her daughter, Marsha Kirkland, visit them recently. Lee Maxwell visited the Maxwells recently and carried Priscilla to the heart doctor in Athens where she got a good report. .Brenda Willis and her mother, Mary O. Willis, visited Marion and Joyce West recently with birthday wishes for Joyce and get well wishes for Marion. . Bonnie Boatwright joined James and Kathleen Canup of Lexington and Tommy and Fran Thaxton Friday to go to Lincolnton to Soap Creek Lodge for supper. .Congratulations to Abbi Berry who received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Georgia. Donnie and Kris Berry, Betty Berry, and Sandra Parker attended the graduation exercise in Athens. . J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright met Connie Gamble, Bill Gamble, and Rachel Gamble of Martinez at Ryan's in Thomson for lunch Wednesday of last week. .I have heard of several rattlesnakes being killed in the area last week. I saw two deer that were killed in the road within the city limits of Washington this past week. It has been reported that a bear and a cub have been spotted near the Courtground School. .Ruby Arnold and Dorothy Callaway visited Brooke Berry, Kaitlyn and Kaidyn several times during the week. Bonnie Boatwright visited them several times during the week. .Peggy Echols spent the day Saturday with Bill and Hope Remsen and Delaney in Evans. . Helen Smith of Crawford visited Bonnie Boatwright and they enjoyed riding out through Salem, Stephens, Maxeys, Woodville, and through Durhamtown and back to McDonald's in Washington. .The Oglethorpe County Class of 1956 had breakfast at Sandy Cross Cafe near Lexington Monday morning. Ten members of the class were present and two spouses. Present were Bonnie Boatwright, Carole Morgan, Helen Smith, Joyce Silvey, J.B. Harrison, Morris Smith, Ray Sanders, Ladyne McDonald, Jo Ann Paul and husband Eddie, and Wayne Lance and wife Marsha. .Brooke Berry, Kaitlyn, Bryson and Kaidyn Porter of Washington and Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed Sunday dinner with Lamar and Kay Berry and Trey. .Aaliya Berry has been attending band camp at the new school in Washington the last two weeks. Ruby Arnold, Kim Berry, Aaliya and Aniyah attended the band banquet Friday evening in the cafeteria of the new school. .Brent Sherrer is in the Athens Regional Medical Center where he had a heart test Monday morning. . A birthday dinner at the home of Bobby and Debra Armour honored Debra on her birthday Tuesday, July 28. Joining Bobby and Debra were Chris and Heather Armour, Rebecca and Raeleigh, Amber Armour, James Bolton, Dywane Armour, Ishimi, Trinity and Greg Glenn, Frances Fendley, Joann Perez, and Richard Burkett. . A birthday dinner honored Walker Young for his third birthday Saturday. His birthday was Sunday. He is the son of Matt Young and Mandy Young, grandson of Ken and Sheila Arnold, and greatgrandson of Troy and Shirley Chafin. .Trey Kemp celebrated his 16th birthday on two occasions, August 1 and 2, with family and friends. .Johnny and Kathryn Shedd attended the homecoming at County Line Baptist Church Sunday. .Peggy Echols spent Sunday afternoon of last week with her sister, Sybil Hayes in Stephens. .Faye Johnson of Gray spent a few days recently with Ruby Arnold and they attended a birthday dinner for Angie Williford at the Williford home in Lexington. . Troy and Shirley Chafin enjoyed having all their children with them for supper Sunday evening. They enjoyed delicious homemade peach ice cream.
