Hutto, staff to assist W-WPRD

2009-08-06 / Sports

The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department's (WWPRD) youth football coaches will be receiving assistance from W-WCHS Coach Lee Hutto and his staff prior to the beginning of the football program which begins in September.

Coach Hutto and his staff plan to share plays, techniques, drills, and styles with the youth football coaches in order to strengthen the youth program. Hopes are that if children are taught similar type skills as the varsity players early in their football careers, they will find the transition from youth football to varsity football much smoother.

The plan is to teach young players football basics that directly correspond to the basics Hutto and his staff expect from their varsity players.

Registration for the W-WPRD youth football has already begun and will continue until August 25 at the W-WPRD gym complex. Department hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

There will be three age divisions; flag football league for 6-7 year olds; midget league , 8-10 year olds; and junior league for 11-12 year olds.
