Competing late into Friday night and early Saturday morning the Lady Patriots of Nathanael Greene Academy opened their season by finishing second at the Windsor Academy First Strike Tournament. The AA Patriots were able to defeat AAA schools Mount De Sales and Central Fellowship on their way to the championship against Robert Toombs. Leading the way for NGA was Mattie Usry with three pitching victories, Savannah Douglass with 10 hits, and Abby Smith with eight hits and six runs. Spencer Sumner and Calleigh Simpson also had a great tournament going 6-for-11 to lead the team with a .545 batting average.

The team is composed of senior/captain Avery Smith; juniors JoAnna Chapman, Heather Nation, Mary Beth Nichols, and Spencer Sumner; sophomores Libby Dowdy, Dana Durham, Savannah Douglass, Bailey Echols, and Abby Smith; and freshmen Calleigh Simpson and Mattie Usry. The team is coached by Stuart Nichols, Gary Usry, and Greg Keck.

A doubleheader at Gatewood is set for this Saturday.
