Animals, shelter need everyone's help
TO THE EDITOR:
I am writing to encourage Wilkes County citizens to donate to the Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter by compassionate grocery shopping. The animals need food in these difficult times - dog and puppy food, cat and kitten food - every little bit helps, and we are grateful for whatever one can give.
It is not easy to ask for financial support in these times. If everyone who could would give a dollar or two it would help feed and vaccinate all the cats and dogs.
The Animal Shelter staff works tirelessly to care for the animals, many that are rescued battered and mistreated. Many are going to rescue groups, but they must be vaccinated, spayed, and neutered.
Volunteers are needed to walk and socialize the dogs. Caring foster homes are needed for temporary care.
I encourage everyone to visit the Washington-Wilkes Animal Shelter at 358 Brown Drive and see all the beautiful cats and dogs for adoption, animals that are waiting for loving homes.
Donations may be sent to P.O. Box 121, Washington 30673. Hours are 3:30-5:30 p.m.
