Springfield Baptist Bible Bowl team receives championship
This quarter's championship Bible Bowl team includes (l-r) Dauri Binns, Coach John Jackson, Christen Lewis, Dionysus Gartrell, Tavian Binns, Teniyah Barnes, and Kristyn Norman. A record number of Sunday School students participated in the most recent Bible Bowl competition which was conducted at Hilliard Station Baptist Church during the August 28-30 quarterly Wilkes County Sunday School Union.
There are no losers in the Bible Bowl competition. Each participating student and team is a winner for, indeed, during the process of studying and preparing for the Bible Bowl, the Word of God is learned and internalized. Prayerfully, it is then applied in the lives of the young people, as well.
Coach Francine Towns and her returning champion Pleasant Grove Baptist Church team consisting of Nailah Jones, Sharkeia Wright, Tammy Carter, and Jasmine Johnson performed admirably in the competition. Under the leadership and coaching of Robin Booker, the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church team consisting of Jonathan Flint and Robert Gresham were the runnerup team during this session. Coach John Jackson and his Springfield Baptist Church team were the most knowledgeable team during this session and having accumulated a record high number of points, they proudly took home the Championship plaque. Members of the Springfield team, including their substitutes, are Dauri Binns, Christen Lewis, Dionysus Gartrell, Tavian Binns, Teniyah Barnes, and Kristyn Norman.
Pastor Norman Williams of Springfield Baptist Church, Pastor Charles Belton of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, and Pastor James McIver of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church can be proud of their student "Bible scholars," their coaches, and the supporting parents. Indeed, the entire Sunday School Union is quite pleased to see youngsters so eager to learn the Word of God and to energetically articulate their newly acquired high level of knowledge of scripture. We are praying that these student "Bible scholars" and other participants in the Sunday School Union will be tomorrow's Sunday School teachers, superintendents, and leaders in the community, state and nation.
