Baldwin recipient of Troupe Harris Scholarship at FBC
Joseph Baldwin, an upcoming senior vocal/opera performance and choral conducting major at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, will be recog- nized during the September 6 Morning Worship Service of the First Baptist Church, Washington, as recipient of the Troupe M. Harris Jr. Scholarship for 2009-2010. He will sing "God and God Alone."
Baldwin, a dean's list honoree at Northwestern, has been active in conducting, teaching, coaching, and performing both within the school and in the community. He is assistant conductor of the Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church in Evanston; has served as assistant conductor and vocal chamber coach at the National High School Music Institute; and recently served as the head counselor/dorm director at the National High School Music Institute.
He is a member of the Northwestern University Baroque Music Ensemble, University Chorale, University Symphonic Chorus, and University Chorus. He serves as chairman of the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music Student Advisory Board, and is the student representative on the Northwestern University New Music Building Committee.
The Troupe Harris Scholarship was founded by gifts from individuals in recognition of Harris' contributions to numerous individuals, the community, and his church. Harris served as longtime Director of Music at First Baptist. The scholarship recognizes academic achievement, Christian character, and dedication to the fine arts.
