Fund-raiser starts; other activities ongoing

W-WMS launched its annual fund-raiser with a kickoff assembly in the gym September 17. A representative from Southern School Services announced the prizes to encourage all students to sell to their friends and neighbors. Bill Pendrey, principal, told the students that this fund-raiser enables our school to have incentives for students and staff for a better school year. The sale includes the traditional cookie dough as well as soups, candy, wrapping paper, and other quality items that can be used personally or given as gifts this holiday season.

In Katy Meech's eighth grade Georgia studies class, students are making an informational poster about Georgia to explain the relationship between each region and its economy, culture, and development. Pam Hall's seventh grade language arts students are writing a narrative piece about an interesting experience they have had. Pam Anderson's eighth grade language arts students are being given a choice of creating a picture collage or brochure in response to the book they have just finished reading, Night, by Eli Wiesel, about World War II and the Holocaust.

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) met September 17 during Extended Learning Time (ELT), a 30-minute period set aside for reading and study skills. Students in FBLA learn business skills through service and competitive events. The officers are Lacecia Doe, president; Keonna Lewis, vice president; and Abby Foster, secretary. Students signed up for committees and were given information about the upcoming Georgia FBLA Motivational Rally to be held in Perry in October. In softball, the Lady Tigers won twice with the same score, 17-2, in doubleheader at home against Wrens, September 15. Dominique Welborn pitched 10 strikeouts. Many players had hits including Haley Lavender, Leslie Souther, Jesse Echols, and Brittany Gresham who had four hits apiece. The Lady Tigers played at Glascock on September 17 and lost 12-4 in the rain. The most impressive plays were from Madison Powell when she fielded the ball at second and connected with Jesse Echols to get the out at home. Also, Jesse Echols connected with Leslie Souther to get runner out at home.

The Tigers football team beat the Louisville Eagles, 30-6, in an away game, September 16. Our team had many impressive plays. Tomarkus Young ran 60 yards for a touchdown. Jalen Turner also had a long touchdown run of 50 yards. Devon Lewis and Deverrius Smith both made interceptions. Deverrius ran about 30 yards with his. Way to go, Tigers!
