Wilkes County 4-H Clubs announce activities for October and November
Audra Chapman, 4-H and Youth Development County Agent for Wilkes County, has supplied the following information on activities with the program for October and November. For more information on any of the activities, call 706-678- 2332.
The 4-H is having a poinsettia sale. All orders are due to be turned in at the November 4-H Club meeting or to the 4-H office by November 20. The student who sells the most in the county will win a $50 cash prize. Plants will be ready for delivery on December 3 and 4.
Activities for Cloverleaf 4-Hers (grades 5 and 6) includes Peanutrition in which students find or invent a recipe for their favorite peanut butter sandwich and enter the contest. Deadline for entering is October 23.
Junior 4-H members may also participate in a Peanutrition contest. by developing a recipe for their favorite uncooked snack that contains some form of peanuts. They must use at least a fourth of a cup of peanuts or at least two tablespoons of peanut butter or candy. Deadline is October 23.
If you are a Junior (grades 7-8) and have not signed up for a District Project Achievement project you need to get in touch with Miss Audra or Miss Jackie and get started. A draft of the portfolio is due November 23.
Senior 4-Hers (grades 9-12) who have not signed up for a DPA project should also get in touch with Miss Audra or Miss Jackie and get started. A draft of the portfolio is due November 23.
The November birthday and bingo party at Harper's Personal Care is set for November 5. A limited number can participate. The van will pick up after school.
The Cotton Boll and Consumer Judging Jamboree will be November 11. This year teams will be judging sleeping bags, pajama pants, breakfast, energy, and protein bars, and student credit cards. Practice will be every Tuesday afternoon until November 10.
The BB team practices will begin Thursday, October 8, at 7 p.m. at the McGill-Woodruff AG Center. Registration fee is $50 for the first child; $40 for the second child and will be due with enrollment form to the Extension Office. All 4-H'ers nine years old to the eighth grade are eligible. Final deadline to register is Tuesday, January 12, 2010.
Cooking Clovers is back by popular demand with Senior members teaching Clovers about food nutrition. You will get to make some delicious dishes. Cost is $16.00 for all four sessions. The class is limited to 12 participants. Cooking Clovers will meet on October 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 3:30-5 p.m. Students must pre-register and pay to be on the list. The van will pick up at schools.
Ashlyn Holley, a Junior 4-H'er will be hosting a pumpkin carving and craft workshop on Thursday, October 22, after school at the 4-H office. Cost is $5.00 plus you must bring your own pumpkin. You should be finished by 5 p.m. There will be spots for about 18 4-H'ers.
