R ev. Jim Newsome brought a good message entitled "Who? Me? at Sardis Baptist Church Sunday morning. Joyce Fry led in the singing of beautiful old time hymns with Pam Hall as pianist. Pastor Newsome gave the children their message at the altar and then they left to go downstairs for children's church with Courtney Gunter. The church welcomes Michelle Mike who joined the church and will be baptized at a later date. Sunday evening brought another good service at Sardis. Prayer meeting was at the Echols Home Wednesday evening. ƒBurt's United Methodist Church will have a ham and egg supper Saturday, October 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. Put your donations in the collection box and eat all you want. This will go to their building fund. Many people from Wilkes County enjoy going to this and look forward to it. If you ever go one time you will want to go back. ƒPrayers continue for Steve Abrams, Romie and Edythe Beckum, Sherry Newsome, Troy Chafin, Wiley Crittenden, Bill Bennett, Evelyn Bennett, Cathy Lannae, Thelma Favor, Willis Sherrer, Brooke Bentley Pearson, Maude Mauldin, Johnny Adams, Brian Wolfe, Teresa Winfrey, Eric Arnold, Calli Nickels, Grady Rogers, Robert and Edythe Harper, Brenda Bunch. Travis Adams, Nancy Moon, Frances Vinson, Myrtice Seymour. There are many other people who need ongoing prayer and our prayers go out for them too. ƒTroy Chafin will start radiation and chemotherapy treatments Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta. ƒWe are glad to learn that Steve Abrams, son of Rev. and Mrs. John Mark Carpenter, had successful surgery last week and has learned that he will not have to have treatments. ƒThe Rayle Ramble was enjoyed by many people Saturday and was a great success. It was good to see many people whom we haven't seen in a while. ƒJ.W. and I took in the Rayle Ramble Saturday and enjoyed a barbecued chicken plate and a funnel cake and playing bingo. Many people came to enjoy the day. We were glad to see Calvin and Betty Whittington and their great-granddaughters of Colbert. Calvin and Betty used to be our next door neighbors and lived where Ruth Flynt now lives. Our children played together way back then. My cousins, James and Kathleen Canup of Lexington, were also at the Ramble. Rosemary Gresham was there with the grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Bryson, and Kaidyn Porter, and their cousin, Mia. ƒJenelle Newsome celebrated her 88th birthday Saturday with many family members and friends, including Jim and Karan Newsome, Jamie, Charlene and Anna Newsome of Martinez, Dave and Mindy Newsome Peek of Cartersalso ville, nephew, Dr. Tom Cofer of Aiken, S.,C., his daughter, Stephanie Cofer of Greenville, S.C., and Jenelle's greatniece, Kim Cofer, and daughter, Ava Grace of Ssavannah. Cousins, Terry and Judy Boswell of Cashiers, N.C., who were here for the Edwards Reunion visited on Friday. Saturday, cousins Tom and Melanie Wells of Washington; their daughter Angie of Watkinsville also joined Jenelle for cake at the Heritage Health Center. Chris and Tara Townsend, Garsten and Henry also visited. Many friends visited, sent flowers, cards, and candy to make her day extra, extra special, and they are so thankful to everyone for everything. ƒNeil and Kim Frankel, Zachery, Kyle and Bryce of Crawford joined Clyde and Sandy Whittington to enjoy the Rayle Ramble Saturday. ƒSunday guests of Buck and Linda Echols were Scott and Sissy Smith and Abby, Richard and Lou Heard, Mattie and Hank, and Bailey Echols. ƒJack and Rubye Armour had all their children and grandchildren along with friends at their house to enjoy Sunday dinner. ƒKenny Thompson and Joe Thompson treated Sudie Kennedy to a pizza supper at her home Friday night. ƒ Birthday wishes go out to Larry Fleming who will celebrate his 50th on October 23. ƒSudie Kennedy and Ann Williamson enjoyed going to Thomson Saturday where they browsed around. ƒTroy and Shirley Chafin and all the Chafin family attended the wedding of Wendy Chafin Harper and Keith Wolfe at the Tignall Baptist Church Saturday afternoon. ƒThe cool weather has been nice and we are enjoying it very much. We've enjoyed the rain. I can hardly wait until it is so cold and the good feeling to come in to a good fire. ƒTroy and Shirley Chafin had a house full of company for the weekend including Tommy Fong, Kenny Prak, Ricky Donnagan, and all the Chafin children. ƒBonnie Boatwright joined James and Kathleen Canup, Margaret Peterman and Fran Thaxton in Lexington Tuesday afternoon to go to Elberton to play bingo with other seniors at Wendy's. ƒWe send love and sympathy to the families of Edward Waller, Mae Willie Stephens, Lee Ellison Barnwell, Ruby Terry Meadows, and Frances Marx Shillinglaw. ƒBobby Armour had a birthday Saturday and was treated to a birthday dinner at his home. Joining Bobby and Debra for the celebration were Frances Fendley, Joann Perez, Richard Burkett, Chris Armour, Rebecca and Raeleigh, Amber Armour, James Bolton, Dywane Armour, and Joann's grandchildren, Daniella, Dominique, Ishimi, Trinity, and Greg. ƒBonnie Boatwright met James and Sharon Smith of Stephens, Frankie Jones of Athens, Martha Jones of Bogart, and Wayne Williams of Watkinsville Wednesday afternoon for a wonderful dinner at Fatz in East Athens. We were glad to see and chat with Marshal and Mablean Sherrer who were also there. ƒCarl Sisson Jr. arrived home Sunday evening for a visit with his mother, Mildred Sisson, and enjoyed deer hunting. Vickie visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Bunn, in Monroe. Family and friends joined Mildred and Carl for supper several times before he and Vickie returned to their home in Madison, Ala. ƒBonnie Boatwright and Randy Boatwright joined Ed and Velma Crooke at Martin's Crossroads Holiness Church in Lincolnton Sunday for family and friends day. Afterwards they enjoyed dinner with Ed and Velma. ƒDoris Walker and Debra Sherrer attended the homecoming game Friday night in Washington where Alex Walker was on the homecoming court. Alex is the daughter of Sidney and Cheryl Walker.
