Frances Wheelis Women on Mission group meets October 5 at Pope home
The Frances Wheelis Women on Mission of First Baptist Church met in the home of Susan Pope on Spring Street Monday evening, October 5.
Cheryl Edwards, facilitator, presided and opened with the devotional, "Have You Ever Had a Jesus Year." She led the members in reading the WMU Watchword and offered a prayer.
Alicia Madden of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, presented the program. Mrs. Madden, wife of Kevin Madden and daughter-in-law of member, Nancy Madden, first thanked members for their consistent support of the ministry, Shaped by God. This ministry provides resources to church planters in a practical way. She reported that Kevin Madden is now employed by the North American Mission Board and related several aspects of his new ministry. She noted that she is also employed by the convention and works with a program called Current, an internship program for high school and university students to "test the waters" of mission work. She used John 15:7 in her presentation.
Following her program the business meeting was conducted. Melanie Wells was named new facilitator and Jackie Gillispie was named vice-facilitator.
Following other business and announcements, Kay Nelms gave the mission action report that included gifts to Shaped by God, Rick's Institute in Liberia, and a collection to provide coats for the children of Romania. Members were reminded to continue to collect hams for a mission project.
Teresa Bishop offered the missionary prayer calendar and after names of missionaries were read and those with special needs named, Mrs. Nelms closed in prayer.
Mrs. Pope served refreshments during a time of fellowship.
Attending were Melanie Wells, Gail Hunter, Jackie Gillispie, Cheryl Edwards, Elizabeth Pope, Susan Pope, Nancy Madden, Louise Mc- Clearen, Priscilla Moore, Kay Nelms, Rosemary Hopkins, Teresa Bishop, Bobbie Johnson and visitors, Alicia Madden, Carol Souther, Becky Stover and Amy Aspinwall.
