Winter outerwear drive begins; distribution slated for Nov. 20
The Wilkes County Unit of the Salvation Army in conjunction with God's Marketplace of Washington and the Bi-Lo store in Washington is sponsoring an outerwear winter clothing drive at God's Marketplace on East Robert Toombs Avenue.
The organizations are in need of donations of coats, sweaters, hats and gloves. Donations will be accepted at the Washington Bi-Lo store and the First United Methodist Church through November 19. Donations that are carried to the Methodist Church should be left in Wesley Hall, the old fellowship hall.
A set of outerwear per family member will be distributed free of charge at God's Marketplace on Friday, November 20, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
"We all have winter outerwear that we no longer use, does not fit, or is out of style that others may use to keep warm," says Salvation Army Director Dr. M.R. Clayton. "Please help us in our efforts to help those who are in need of winter clothing."
Interested persons may call Dr. Clayton at 706-678-7584 for more information.
