Dr. Johnston presents program on Heart Health of Women November 9
Paula Suggs welcomes guest speaker, Dr. Lester Johnston, to the Woman's Club meeting. Dr. Lester Johnston was guest speaker at the meeting of the Washington Woman's Club Monday, November 9, at the clubhouse.
Dr. Johnston, introduced by Paula Suggs, program chairman, spoke on Heart Health of Women focusing predominantly on the effects of good and bad cholesterol.
Prior to his presentation Vivian Walker presided and Bunny Gunby, in the absence of Alice Lindsey, chaplain, offered a devotional in which she combined two November observances, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. She encouraged members to "thank a veteran". She also offered a Thanksgiving Psalm, a prayer and then led the Pledge to the Flag.
Susan Branan gave a report on the success of the spaghetti supper and related to members her appreciation to Ingles for their support and contributions to the club to help make the event so successful.
Proceeds from this event as well as others go back into the community. Many of the areas of support of the club in the community include Wilkes Pre-Release Center, Wills Memorial Hospital Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, Georgia TASC, Angel Tree Ministry, Mary Willis Library, America Cancer Relay for Life, Cancer Relief Fund (transportation) and Heritage Healthcare of Wilkes.
Members were also reminded of their gifts for Heritage Healthcare of Wilkes that should be brought for the residents to the December meeting.
Hostesses for the meeting were Paula Suggs, Ashley Barnett and Amy Johnston. Scarecrows atop jars of candy corn, made by Mrs. Suggs, were used on the tables. The mantles featured harvest decorations and the front door showcased a star centered with fall leaves.
Twenty-seven members and guests attended.
