2009-11-12 / Personalities

The Mary C. Reid Women on Mission met in the conference room of the First Baptist Church on Tuesday morning, November 3.

Mrs. Dennis Hopkins opened the meeting with the reading of the WMU Watchword.

Guests were welcomed and the speaker, Mrs. Mary Broadnix of Elberton, was introduced.

Mrs. Broadnix presented the program on her missionary work in Brazil. She has been making two trips to various cities there once or twice a year for the past four years. Mrs. Broadnix works with Pioneer Mission, a group formed by a few churches which includes two or three doctors on each trip as well as nurses and builders. They work in groups of twelve and build chapels with a medical clinic and an eye clinic nearby which attracts large numbers of people all of whom are taught about Christianity before being treated. The missionaries pay their own expenses and raise $6000 each per year for materials, tools and toys which they leave there when the work is finished. Next year's trip will be to Bella, Brazil.

Following the program Mrs. Hopkins prayed for the missionaries.

Those with special needs were remembered.

After the business meeting, Mrs. Eldon Holes gave the prayer calendar and closed the meeting with prayer.

Those present were Mrs. Mary Ann Bentley, Mrs. Joe Harris, Mrs. Wayne Henderson, Mrs. Eldon Holes, Mrs. Dennis Hopkins, Mrs. James Johnson, Mrs. Gene Pollock, Mrs. Charles Reese and guests, Mrs. Klay Aspinwall and Mrs. Charles Henderson.
